The biggest surprise of the year is The Edge of Seventeen! A fantastic teen dramedy about an awkward teenage girl dealing with her world falling apart when her best friend suddenly starts dating her brother. Although this may be the same coming of age story that we’ve seen many times before it’s the characters and the smart screenplay that set this one apart from the rest. Nadine (Steinfeld) is a character a lot of people are going to relate to. It’s a riveting yet simple story.
Hailee Steinfeld is incredible and 100% deserved an Oscar nomination for her role. Her character is the heart of this film. She’s so entertaining in this role and I can’t imagine anyone else pulling this off. Besides the entire cast being terrific, Woody Harrelson stands out in his brief screen time as the teacher Nadine runs to during her time of crisis. They are hilarious together and boost this already fantastic film even more.
The Edge of Seventeen is one of the best films of 2016! I loved this movie and it ranks up there among some of the best teen films of all time. Classic comedies like The Breakfast Club, Ferris Buller’s Day Off and Mean Girls. This deserved a bigger audience and is destined to fall on a list with those movies once more people get out there and see it.
