This Sunday the 2016 Primetime Emmy Awards are on and I’m going to give my guess on who might win and who I think should win…
OUTSTANDING DRAMA SERIES
Better Call Saul
Game of Thrones
House of Cards
WHO WILL WIN – Game of Thrones
WHO SHOULD WIN – I am very behind in my Television Drama watching and have to be honest and say the only show I have fully watched on this list is Mr. Robot. I know blasphemy! I have a lot of catching up to do in the world of TV. So I have to give it to Mr. Robot by default. Someday I’ll get through Homeland, but I never loved it. Same with House of Cards.
OUTSTANDING ACTOR IN A DRAMA SERIES
Kyle Chandler “Bloodline”
Rami Malek “Mr Robot”
Bob Odenkirk “Better Call Saul”
Liev Schreiber “Ray Donovan”
Kevin Spacey “House of Cards”
Matthew Rhys “The Americans”
WHO WILL WIN – Rami Malek “Mr. Robot”
WHO SHOULD WIN – Rami Malek “Mr. Robot” It’s a fantastic deserving performance. I think if anyone steals it from Rami it will be a surprise win for Matthew Rhys.
OUTSTANDING ACTRESS IN A DRAMA SERIES
Claire Danes “Homeland”
Viola Davis “How to Get Away With Murder”
Taraji P. Henson “Empire”
Tatiana Maslany “Orphan Black”
Keri Russell “The Americans”
Robin Wright “House of Cards”
WHO WILL WIN – Viola Davis “How to Get Away With Murder”
WHO SHOULD WIN – Tatiana Maslany “Orphan Black” A show I have never seen, but have hear a lot about. This is on my list and from the clips I’ve seen she seems worthy of a win. I love Viola, but I think How to Get Away With Murder is garbage, I couldn’t get past the first 3 episodes of season 1. Give her an Oscar for something instead, not this.
OUTSTANDING SUPPORTING ACTOR IN A DRAMA SERIES
Jonathan Banks “Better Call Saul”
Ben Mendelsohn “Bloodline”
Peter Dinklage “Game of Thrones”
Kit Harington “Game of Thrones”
Michael Kelly “House of Cards”
Jon Voight “Ray Donovan”
WHO WILL WIN – Jonathan Banks “Better Call Saul”
WHO SHOULD WIN – I have no idea, again I have not seen any of these. I know I’m crazy you don’t need to tell me… and yes someday I’ll watch Game of Thrones. So I have no opinion on this category and I’m guessing Jonathan Banks.
OUTSTANDING ACTRESS IN A DRAMA SERIES
Maura Tierney “The Affair”
Maggie Smith “Downton Abbey”
Lena Headey “Game of Thrones”
Emilia Clarke “Game of Thrones”
Maisie Williams “Game of Thrones”
Constance Zimmer “UnReal”
WHO WILL WIN – Maggie Smith “Downton Abbey”
WHO SHOULD WIN – Constance Zimmer “UnReal” I loved season one of UnReal and Constance kicks ass on this show. She steals every scene she’s in. She’s the perfect… sort of villain. I’d love for her to win, but I think her nomination was the win for her and the show sadly.
OUTSTANDING COMEDY SERIES
Master of None
Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt
WHO WILL WIN – Veep
WHO SHOULD WIN – This category I have seen most of the shows and Transparent is my favourite and deserves to win for it’s second season. I love Veep also and would be happy if it won. Modern Family is growing tired. Silicon Valley is fun, but not the best of the year. I loathe Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, it’s so overrated.
OUTSTANDING ACTOR IN A COMEDY SERIES
Anthony Anderson “Black-ish”
Aziz Ansari “Master of None”
Will Forte “Last Man on Earth”
William H. Macy “Shameless”
Thomas Middleditch “Silicon Valley”
Jeffrey Tambor “Transparent”
WHO WILL WIN – Jeffrey Tambor “Transparent”
WHO SHOULD WIN – Jeffrey Tambor “Transparent” Jeffrey Tambor is brilliant in this role, he should and will win. I’m so happy Jim Parson’s is no longer getting nominated. I will never understand his wins or the appeal of The Big Bang Theory. Finally some great performances will win.
OUTSTANDING ACTRESS IN A COMEDY SERIES
Ellie Kemper “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt”
Julia Louis-Dreyfuss “Veep”
Laurie Metcalf “Getting On”
Tracee Ellis Ross “Black-ish”
Amy Schumer “Inside Amy Schumer“
Lily Tomlin “Grace & Frankie”
WHO WILL WIN – Julia Louis-Dreyfuss “Veep”
WHO SHOULD WIN – Laurie Metcalf “Getting On” I love Julia Louis-Dreyfuss, she is fantastic in this and everything she does. Maybe it’s time to give it to someone else though. I loved the show Getting On and was sad to see it end its run this year. She is hilarious in this and totally deserving of the recognition. I don’t think she’s going to win, but I would be excited for her.
OUTSTANDING SUPPORTING ACTOR IN A COMEDY SERIES
Louie Anderson “Baskets”
Andre Braugher “Brooklyn Nine-Nine”
Keegan-Michael Key “Key & Peele”
Ty Burrell “Modern Family”
Tituss Burgess “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt”
Tony Hale “Veep”
Matt Walsh “Veep”
WHO WILL WIN – Tony Hale “Veep”
WHO SHOULD WIN – Tony Hale “Veep” Doesn’t he win every year? I don’t think this is a very strong category so I think he should win, but if anyone takes it away I hope it’s his co-star Matt Walsh.
OUTSTANDING SUPPORTING ACTRESS IN A COMEDY SERIES
Niecy Nash “Getting On”
Allison Janney “Mom”
Kate McKinnon “Saturday Night Live”
Judith Light “Transparent”
Gaby Hoffmann “Transparent”
Anna Chlumsky “Veep”
WHO WILL WIN – Allison Janney “Mom”
WHO SHOULD WIN – Judith Light “Transparent” Ok… I’m sorry, but this is just like Jim Parson’s winning every year for a show I can’t stand. Allison Janney wins every year for this really bad sitcom. I don’t get it. I think she’s going to win again because that’s what the Emmy’s do. I like Janney in other movies and shows, but really not in this at all. This is a strong category and I think the only one who shouldn’t win is Janney. I would be happy if any of the others win, but Judith Light really deserves this. She’s so different in this that she is in her other roles. Also, Anna Chlumsky deserves a win soon… I don’t think she will this year because her role seem a lot smaller this season, but by the end of Veep’s run I hope she wins.
Enjoy the show!!
