I was a fan of the television series so I knew going into this what to expect. If you’ve never seen the show before you may not enjoy this or have as much fun as the fans will. There are some hilarious moments that everyone’s going to laugh their ass off at, but if you don’t know these characters like the fans it might not be your cup of tea.

Edina and Patsy are finally on the big screen which many of us fans have been waiting a long time for. These fabulous characters are the reason this movie is enjoyable and hilarious. However, where I think the movie doesn’t totally work is the mediocre story. There’s plot holes all over the place and the overall film seemed a little messy, I sense some troubles in the editing suite on this one. The movie has the same problems that many TV show to films suffer with. They try so hard to please and make everything bigger and more epic that the original show that everyone loved gets lost in the larger budgets and cameos. Sadly it’s the story that seems to be the first to suffer in these cases. Sometimes stretching a half hour show to an hour and a half causes the humour to get a little tired and old by the end.

I laughed a lot and I loved seeing them on the big screen. I’m not disappointed, but I did expect better. If anything it really makes me want to go back and watch the series again. Jennifer Saunders and Joanna Lumley are brilliant, they were when the show first started and they still are today and that is why this movie will make you smile no matter how many problems it has.
