Going into Brooklyn I knew that I was going to be seeing a good movie, but I had not idea I was about to see one of the best films of the year! Everything about this movie is terrific, from the story to the amazing performances, stunning production design and beautiful cinematography. It’s an absolutely brilliant film!
The story is quiet and simple and it’s because of that it works so well and is completely captivating from beginning to end. I didn’t expect to feel so many emotions watching it. Saoirse Ronan’s outstanding performance is a huge reason why this movie is so successful. Her subtle performance is on key and one of the best performances of the year. She just gives a look and you know what this character is feeling. The entire cast was terrific, but it was Ronan and Emory Cohen that had such amazing chemistry together that I really want to believe they are a couple in real life. They’re perfect together!
I think there are many things in this film that will grab people. Even though the experiences are different, there’s something here that everyone can relate to. The first time leaving home and family, falling in love and the incredibly tough decisions that hit you throughout your life. It’s something so simple like this that makes this film so great.
This is probably one of the most romantic, touching, uplifting and endearing films I have seen. This is an instant classic on my list! Oscar noms all around!
